The Island of Funzi is located in Coastal Kenya, Kwale County, alongside Mombasa, 12 kilometres from the settlement Milalani. 

Funzi has a population of about 2000 people. The two main economic activities are fishing and farming in a small scales system. The fishermen have to deal with the lack of gear and property boats. 

It happens that they go fishing without catching any fish and they have to return back home without any food. Getting three meals a day is a dream to fulfill on the Island. Sometimes people don't get food until late in the night or for the whole day.
